Mark Pomar is the founding President and CEO of the Moscow-based U.S.Russia Foundation for Economic Advancement and the Rule of Law (USRF), and will share his views on the state of Russian civil society today. The not-for-profit USRF supports US-Russia university partnerships, entrepreneurship, civil society programs, professional and student exchanges, and non-governmental organizations. From 2000 to 2008, Dr. Pomar was President of the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), one of the premier American not-for-profit organizations that administer education and training programs worldwide. Prior to IREX, he served as Executive Director of the Board for International Broadcasting, Director of the Russian Service of the Voice of America, and Assistant/Associate Professor of Russian Studies at the University of Vermont. We are proud that he is a Harriman/Russia Institute alum, who earned his Ph.D. in Russian Literature and History at Columbia in 1978.
