Primary Activities

Academic Programs
The Institute is home to the M.A. program in Regional Studies: Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe, which provides an interdisciplinary study of the region to young scholars and midcareer professionals.  The Institute also administers a Certificate program, open to students pursuing graduate-level degrees at Columbia.

Research, Lectures, and Conferences
The Institute sponsors research, public lectures, and conferences. Special projects focus attention on East Central Europe, Ukraine, the Black Sea region, and Central Asia.  These activities are open to the private sector, the media, alumni, local educators, and the policy community.

The Institute publishes the biannual Harriman Magazine, newsletters and event summaries, and sponsors the scholarly book series, Studies of the Harriman Institute. Events listings on the Institute website include video and audio coverage, when available.

Fellows and Visiting Scholars
The Institute serves as an intellectual home for visiting scholars, policy experts, journalists, and other professionals from all parts of the world.
