Please join the Ukrainian Film Club at Columbia University for a screening of the 1968 film Annychka, directed by Borys Ivchenko. Professor Yuri Shevchuk will introduce the film and lead the post-screening discussion. The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
This rarely seen jewel of Ukrainian poetic cinema is the love story of a Hutsul girl, Annychka, and a Soviet guerrilla, Andrii, during World War II. It features such greats of the Ukrainian silver screen as Kost Stepankov, Ivan Mykolaichuk, and Ivan Havryliuk, as well as the striking vision of Directory of Photography of Mykola Kulchytsky. Annychka is an absolute must-see.
