Human with a Stool is a film about the last trip of traveler and director Leonid Kanter. Kanter journeys with a group of twenty people from four countries whose goal is to carry a wooden stool from an ordinary Kyiv kitchen to Cape Horn and place it on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, while documenting their unpredictable adventures along the way. Leonid records everything surrounding him, turning his life into a film in which he is both protagonist and director. On their return home, the travelers are caught up in the outbreak of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine
Human with a Stool was initially conceived as a manifesto of the invincible power of human dreams, but life intervened in the process of the filmmaking. After Leonid Kanter died by suicide in 2018, director Yaroslav Popov took over the project, and the script underwent a transformation to become something more akin to a philosophical adventure biopic.
