Language Ideologies and the Media in Post-Soviet Ukraine

Volodymyr Kulyk, a senior research fellow at the Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in Kyiv) will give a lecture titled, "Language Ideologies and the Media in Post-Soviet Ukraine." Kulyk will address how the media has contributed to the prominence of the Russian language in Ukrainian society and has presented this prominence as normal, as he focuses on language ideologies (beliefs about the nature, structure and use of language) in contemporary Ukrainian media
