Sasha Gagarin at the Harriman Institute: Acoustic Rock from the Urals

Wednesday, September 12, 2018
1201 International Affairs Building (420 W 118th St, 12th floor)

Please join the Eurasian Studies Student Organization and the Harriman Institute for a musical performance by Sasha Gagarin.

Sasha Gagarin is a musician, poet, actor, songwriter and frontman of the Yekaterinburg band Sansara, called "the most fascinating representative of Ural Wave music in the 21st century." Sasha is also the musical director of the famous Mumiy Trol music bar in Moscow, opened under Ilya Lagutenko.

Apart from releasing eleven studio albums and eighteen singles with Sansara, Gagarin recorded a solo acoustic album, Pioneer and performed a one-man show of the same name at the Moscow theater "Na Strastnom." Misha also published a poetry anthology Souteneur, whose texts are thoroughly imbued with "symbolism and a thirst for love in a world filled with cynicism and indifference." He is often found collaborating with bands like Mumiy Troll and Obe Dve.

In his first American tour, Sasha will feature his repertoire in a raw "vocals with acoustics" style: only the essential clarity, warmth and love to be shared in a tete-a-tete with a loved one. The concert will feature songs from Sasha's solo album Pioneer and his main hits with "Sansara".
