On Friday, April 26, 2019, five M.A. students from Harvard’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies joined six Harriman M.A. students at Columbia for the third annual Columbia-Harvard Thesis Colloquium. Students presented theses on topics ranging from the impact of Chinese repression in Xinjiang on Kazakh foreign policy to the creation of the communal economy in 1920s Moscow. This new Columbia-Harvard tradition was started by Harriman Director Alex Cooley and his counterpart at the Davis Center, Professor Rawi Abdelwal, to increase the opportunities for regional studies masters students to meet and share their research with one another. We look forward to next year’s colloquium at Harvard’s Davis Center. To see the list of presenters and thesis topics please click here.
