As Russian-backed rebels expand farther into Eastern Ukraine and tensions escalate between Russia and the West, Timothy Frye, Marshall D. Shulman Professor of Post-Soviet Foreign Policy at Columbia, will interview a dynamic group of experts about the potential geopolitical consequences of the unfolding events. What are the pros and cons of providing direct U.S. military aid to Ukraine? What is the meaning of the Ukraine confrontation for the overall pattern of great power relations? Is this a “back to the future” moment? And does it make sense to think about it through the concepts of cold war containment and extended deterrence? What is the impact of the Ukraine Crisis on domestic politics in Russia? And what is its impact on regimes and stability in the Caucasus and Central Asia and on the statuses of other frozen conflicts and de facto states?
