Translating Ukraine Summer Institute
June 21, 2024

The 2024 Translating Ukraine Summer Research Institute, which  took place in Wrocław, Poland, on June 3-14, brought together established and emerging translators, academic publishers, and scholars of translation and literary studies for two weeks filled with classes, guest lectures, workshops and presentations. In the course of the institute’s program students from various corners of the world took three translation modules: Literary Prose taught by Harriman’s Mark Andryczyk, Poetry taught by Oksana Lutsyshyna, and Non-fiction/Academic Texts taught by Dominique Hoffman. The institute provided an important forum at which participants were able to discuss various aspects of Ukraine and its literature and develop ways in which to promote the country’s many voices globally.

To fund the Translating Ukraine Summer Institute the Harriman Institute joined forces with the Ukrainian Research Institute, Harvard University; the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta; Cambridge Ukrainian Studies; Shevchenko Scientific Society, USA; UNWLA-Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, Inc.; Razom for Ukraine; Kolegium Europy Wschodniej; New Eastern Europe; and Zakład Narodowy im. Ossolińskich/Ossolineum.
