ASEEES announced that Margarita Balmaceda is the winner of the Marshall D. Shulman Book Prize, which is sponsored by the Harriman Institute. Balmaceda’s prize-winning book is Russian Energy Chains: The Remaking of Technopolitics from Siberia to Ukraine to the European Union (Columbia University Press). In October 2021, Professor Balmaceda gave a talk about her book at the Harriman Institute. Balmaceda is a professor of diplomacy and international relations at Seton Hall University. She is also an associate at Harvard University’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies and at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute.

Honorable Mention went to Chris Miller for We Shall Be Masters: Russian Pivots to East Asia from Peter the Great to Putin (Harvard University Press).
