Harriman Symposium on Maria Stepanova’s Holy Winter Published in NLO

On November 18th, 2024, a number of scholars and poets convened in the Harriman Institute to discuss Maria Stepanova’s poem, “Holy Winter,” a reflection on the poet’s experience during the 2020/2021 COVID-19 lockdowns. Now, the intellectual fruits of that symposium are available publicly, published in Russian by NLO.

The NLO publication includes original work by Katharina Raabe, Olga Radetskaja, Sasha Dugdale, Irina Paperno, Lyubov Golburt, Irina Shevelenko, Mark Lipovetsky, Andrew Kahn, Stephanie Sandler, and Maria Stepanova herself.

The symposium, moderated by Mark Lipovetsky and Irina Paperno, featured work on ‘The Making of the Poem’ (Olga Radetskaja, Sasha Dugdale, Katharina Raabe, Tynan Kogane and Maria Stepanova herself) and on ‘Interpreting the Poem’ (Lyubov Golburt, Irina Paperno, Stephanie Sandler, Irina Shevelenko, Eugene Ostashevsky).
