István Deák Visiting Professorship
The Harriman Institute’s István Deák Visiting Professorship was established in honor of the eponymous Hungarian-American historian to bring scholars from East and Central Europe to Columbia and help support their research and teaching. Academics from a disciplines including history, political science, sociology, are awarded the Deák Visiting Professorship on a semester basis, and these scholars receive support from the academic department for their discipline during their time at Columbia. Deák Visiting Professors teach two courses and give one public lecture during their professorship. Those awarded an István Deák Visiting Professorship are provided with a competitive compensation package and a private office in the East Central European Center. This Visiting Professorship is open to all distinguished scholars of East and Central Europe.
