In her essay, “Ghosts of Borodino,” Sophie Pinkham (MARS-REERS ’12, Ph.D., Slavic Department, 2019) reviews three new translations of works by Maria Stepanova, one of the most important voices on the contemporary Russian literary scene. The Summer 2021 issue of Harriman Magazine will run a chapter from Stepanova’s In Memory of Memory, which has been shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. Stepanova will be in residence at the the Slavic Department this fall and will teach a 4-week course, “Between History and Story.”
