Summer Graduate Research Fellowships in Russian, Eurasian and East European Diaspora Studies
The Harriman Institute Summer Graduate Research Fellowships in Russian, Eurasian and East European Diaspora Studies support graduate students from across Columbia University on a competitive application basis. This fellowship is meant specifically for those who are traveling to a location outside of Russia, Eurasia and Eastern Europe. Domestic travel is also allowed and encouraged. Fellowships are awarded for a maximum of $3,500.
Application Details
Eligibility
All current graduate students enrolled at Columbia University are eligible for this fellowship. Your research must focus on Russian, Eurasian, or East European diasporas.
All applicants must meet current Columbia University travel requirements (see Travel Notice below).
Fellowship recipients are required to submit a brief trip report within six weeks of their return and may be asked to meet with Harriman donors supporting this fellowship.
Requirements
- Proposal – (two-page max.)
- Itemized budget – Maximum award: $3,500
- Curriculum vitae/résumé – Students must include information on academic standing, as well as the Columbia PID number.
- One confidential letter of recommendation (emailed directly by your recommender to Katrina Papouskaya at kp3030@columbia.edu).

Travel Notice
All international travel must follow Columbia University's travel policy. Students must present proof of trip registration and/or approval by Columbia Global Travel before funds will be released.
