Congratulations to Ann Cooper (Professor Emerita, Columbia Journalism School; Editor-in-Chief, Harriman Magazine), who coauthored Newshawks in Berlin (Columbia University Press, 2024) with Larry Heinzerling and Randy Herschaft. The book examines the Associated Press (AP) coverage of Germany from the inception of the Nazi regime through the aftermath of World War II. After the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, the Associated Press (AP) brought news about life under the Third Reich to millions of American readers. The AP was America’s most important source for foreign news, but to continue reporting under the Nazi regime, the agency made compromises.
