Please join the Ukrainian Film Club at Columbia University for a film screening of a new feature documentary, “Daddy’s Lullaby,” (Ukraine/Romania/Croatia, in Ukrainian; English subtitles. 78 min.) followed by a discussion with the film director Lesia Diak. Moderated by Yuri Shevchuk.

In her debut feature documentary, Lesia Diak observes 45-year-old Serhii Zinchuk, a Ukrainian soldier who returns from three harrowing years on the Eastern front to a fragile peace with his wife and young sons. In between moments of intimacy, tension, and loneliness, the filmmaker suddenly has the soldier turn the camera on her, and as she opens up about her own childhood experiences and her recent relationship with a war veteran, the emotional complexities of “Daddy’s Lullaby” deepen further.

Lesia Diak’s film was selected by the prestigious Doc Fortnight 2025: MoMA’s Festival of International Nonfiction Film and Media.
