Southern Crossings: A New Chamber Opera
A new chamber opera with music by Syrian-Polish composer, Zaid Jabri, and featuring the Polish accordion virtuoso, Maciej Frackiewicz. Ten years in the making, the opera’s libretto was written by Barnard professor, Yvette Christiansë and Columbia anthropologist, Rosalind Morris. This is not the first collaboration between the librettists and the composer, who studied at the Krakow Academy of Music with Krzysztof Penderecki and Zbigniew Bujarski. Their work has been featured at Carnegie Hall and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, among other venues. Performances on June 16 and 18.
