Alena is a first-year MARS-REERS student at Harriman. Prior to joining Columbia, she finished her undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature and Political Science at the Free University of Berlin. Alena’s academic interests include contemporary Russian politics and international relations, the construction of post-Soviet national identity, and East European diaspora. She also works as a freelance journalist.
