Rubygrace Heaney is a first-year masters student at the Harriman Institute. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Rubygrace completed her undergraduate degree at McGill University. While at McGill, Rubygrace studied political science, with minors in Russian Language and Hispanic Studies. Prior to studying at the Harriman Institute, Rubygrace worked as a family law paralegal where she gained a working knowledge of the American legal system. Shifting focus from the legal field, Rubygrace is grateful for the opportunity to deepen her understanding of the region and aims to center research around nation-building and memory politics in Central and Eastern Europe.
In her spare time, Rubygrace loves to read. Her (current) favorites include: Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’, Witold Gombrowicz’s ‘Possessed: The Secret of Myslotch’, and L.M. Montgomery’s ‘Anne of Green Gables’.
