Michael Scammell is Professor Emeritus at the School of the Arts at Columbia University. He has translated books by Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Nabokov into English and is the author of Koestler: The Literary and Political Odyssey of a Twentieth-Century Skeptic (Random House, 2009). His interests include literary biography, literary translation, and Russian and East European literatures.
