Rebecca Kobrin (Russell and Bettina Knapp Professor of American Jewish History; Co-Director, Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies) served as consultant for a large public exhibition in the main square of Bialystok. The exhibit speaks to the fact that Jewish history was actually Polish history in interwar Bialystok. Kobrin is the author of Jewish Bialystok and Its Diaspora (Indiana University Press, 2010).
The lavishly illustrated exhibition catalog, in Polish with English summaries, includes Kobrin’s essay on “The Other Polonia: Jewish Immigrants from Bialystok.”
