Please join the Harriman Institute for a lecture by Alice Mee. Moderated by Elise Giuliano.

How can perpetrators of war crimes be held accountable when the means and methods of waging war are changing so rapidly? And what do the changing technologies and tactics used in Ukraine today mean for civilians on the ground?

Alice Mee will present recent research on war crimes and human rights violations in Ukraine from Truth Hounds, an analytical organization founded in Kyiv in 2014. She will discuss the organization’s approaches to investigating human rights violations in Ukraine and engaging with accountability mechanisms, and will also offer insight into Truth Hounds’ recent findings. In particular, Alice will present the organization’s latest research on the use of short-range drone attacks on humanitarian personnel and first responders, the challenges this poses for civilian self-protection, and the ramifications for civilians in frontline communities.

Truth Hounds is a full-spectrum accountability organization founded in Kyiv in 2014, specializing in the documentation and investigation of war crimes, international crimes and other serious human rights violations in Ukraine and other conflict-affected areas. Since 2014, Truth Hounds have conducted over 90 in-depth investigations into war crimes, carried out over 300 field missions, and identified over 320 suspects of war crimes. The organization has won numerous awards, including the Sakharov Freedom Award (2025), the Human Rights Tulip (2024), and the Clooney Foundation’s Justice for Survivors Award (2023).

Alice Mee is a Senior Researcher at Truth Hounds, where she has worked on topics including the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the health impacts of attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, short-range drone attacks, and other military tactics used against the civilian population. Alice is an alumna of Columbia University’s Harriman Institute, where she specialized in the study of Ukraine and received her MA in 2024. She received her BA from the University of Cambridge and has previously worked in Ukraine and Costa Rica. Alice speaks languages including French, Spanish and Ukrainian.
