Improvisation: Variations on Polish Marian Songs
Mateusz Rzewuski – concert organist, Habilitated Doctor of Musical Arts is one of the most active performing artists of Polish concert organists. In 2018, Mateusz Rzewuski was conferred the Doctor of Musical Arts degree (at the age of only 26) at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw on the grounds of his doctoral dissertation: “The art of creation of sacred symphonic organ works based on the cycles of Symphonie-Passion op. 23 by Marcel Dupré and L’Ascension by Olivier Messiaen” and the first CD in Poland recorded on the historic Aristide Cavaillé-Coll organ at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Orléans, France. He obtained his postdoctoral degree in the field of Musical Arts in 2026 at the I.J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. The artistic work presented during the habilitation procedure was the artist’s second solo album – “Polish Historic Organs in Olkusz & Pasłęk” – recorded on two superbly restored historic organs in Olkusz and Pasłęk. Rzewuski has given concerts at international festivals on four continents: in 23 European countries, the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Hongkong and Russia, performing recitals in many prestigious venues, including concert halls in Hong Kong, Moscow, Cracow, Vilnius, Tampa, Bialystok; concert halls of renowned universities, including the University of California, Dartmouth College and the University of Tampa; at the Central Synagogue in New York and cathedrals in San Francisco, London, Wellington, Seoul, Edinburgh, Ulm, Orleans.
