Maria Stepanova (2022 Harriman Writer in Residence) published the essay “The War of Putin’s Imagination” in the Financial Times (Mar. 18 2022). Stepanova, a prominent public intellectual and award-winning writer, is also editor-in-chief of the progressive cultural portal Colta.ru, which has recently been blocked by the Russian authorities.
This semester Stepanova is teaching a four-week course in the Columbia Slavic Department, titled “Between History and Story: (Post) Memorial Literature in the Post-Soviet Space.”
