Mark Lipovetsky, Professor and Chair of Slavic Languages, has not one, but two articles in the latest issue of the New Literary Observer (Novoe Literaturenoe Obozrenie 3/2025). The first, “The Legend about Ranevskaya,” presents the case for viewing Ranevskaya, the famous actress, as a female trickster whoser brand of humor is camp, as understood by Susan Sontag, among others. The second article, “Instead of Foucault,” analyzes the significance of graphomania in the work of Andrei Sinyavsky/Abram Tertz.
