Columbia Slavic alums Max Lawton and Bradley Gorski have been awarded book prizes at the 2026 AATSEEL conference in New Orleans, LA.
Max Lawton won for the Best Prose Translation into English for his “Red Pyramid: Selected Stories” by Vladimir Sorokin (NYRB 2024). In recent years, Lawton has also released a number of other translations of Vladimir Sorokin’s work, including – “Their Four Hearts” (Dalkey Archive Press 2022), “Telluria” (NYRB Classics 2022), “Blue Lard” (NYRB 2024), “Dispatches from the District Committee” (Dalkey Archive Press 2024), and “The Sugar Kremlin” (Dalkey Archive Press 2025).
Bradley Gorski won for Best Edited Multi-Author Volume for “Red Migrations: Transnational Mobility and Leftist Culture after 1917,” edited by Philip Gleissner and Bradley A. Gorski (University of Toronto Press 2024). Last year, Gorski also released his first solo book project “Cultural Capitalism: Literature and the Market after Socialism” (Cornell University Press 2025), which was proudly supported by a Harriman First Book Subvention.
