In April 2024, Mikhail Shishkin (Harriman Writer in Residence ’13) joined forces with leading Slavists in Switzerland to create the Dar (Gift) Literary Prize. Since that time leading scholars and authors from Europe and the U.S. have joined the Dar Foundation. The shortlist of 12 books for the inaugural award has been published, with the winner to be announced in May.Dar Award
About the Dar Prize
the award was created to support and promote authors writing in Russian, regardless of their place of residence and citizenship. We strive to draw attention to new voices and the best examples of modern Russian-language literature. The Prize strives to create a new one, where literature in Russian takes its rightful place in the world, being responsible to humanity, and not to dictatorships.
The Readers’ Award
Independent of the main Prize, which is awarded by the Jury, a readers’ vote (Crowdfunding) is organized. On the website of the Prize, readers have the opportunity to vote for any author from the final list – one vote corresponds to a minimum contribution of 10 Euros with no upper limit. The winner of the Readers’ Award is determined by the number of votes received. All monetary sums are transferred to the authors voted for by the readers.
